Lake County Tax Collector Expands Concealed Weapon License Services to Include Replacement Options

The Lake County Tax Collector’s Office is proud to announce the expansion of its concealed weapon license (CWP) services. Effective immediately, residents can now replace a statewide concealed weapon license at any Lake County Tax Collector service center. This addition complements the existing CWP services, which include original license applications and renewals.

Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson partnered with my Office to pass legislation that extends this opportunity to our community. “We are pleased to be able to expand our partnership with tax collectors to make it easier and more convenient for Floridians to receive concealed weapon license services and exercise their Second Amendment rights,” Commissioner Simpson said.

“Our office is always looking for ways to improve and provide new, innovative ways to best serve our constituents,” said David W. Jordan, Lake County Tax Collector. “Adding the capability to replace concealed weapon licenses locally makes this important service more accessible and convenient for the residents of Lake County. Previously, this option was only available by mail through Tallahassee or by visiting a Department of Agriculture regional office in Orlando.”

The Lake County Tax Collector’s Office has been offering concealed weapon license services since 2014, when tax collector offices were authorized to take applications, fingerprint applicants, and securely transmit information to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for final eligibility determinations. Concealed weapon licenses are in high demand in Florida, with over 2.4 million licenses currently issued statewide. The Department of Agriculture processed more than 100,000 new license applications in the last fiscal year.

Florida Highway Patrol Warns Public of Strict Enforcement of Illegally Wrapped License Plates

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) has issued an important warning to all drivers with Florida license plates. If your plate has been airbrushed, vinyl-wrapped, or customized, it may be violating Florida law. These alterations, including the yellow validation stickers, can impact the plate’s reflectivity and safety features and are against Section 320.061, Florida Statutes.

Key Points to Note:
  • Altered plates are illegal and can lead to citations.
  • Since 2020, citations for unlawful plate alterations have surged by over 98%.
  • Violations include a state fine of $60, three points on your license, and additional county fees.
If your plate has been altered and can’t be restored to its original condition, visit your local tax collector’s office for a replacement. FHP Troopers can seize altered tags, requiring owners to apply for a new license plate.

Florida offers over 100 specialty license plates supporting various causes, and personalized plates are available at all tax collector’s offices. For more info on specialty and personalized license plates, visit FLHSMV.
