Appointments are required for driving skills tests and hazardous materials tests and are exclusively available for Lake County residents.

Written tests (Class E & CDL) are available by walk-in and provided exclusively for Lake County residents.

Walk-in services, such as driver license, tag, title, and CWP are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Driving tests for non-U.S. citizens can be scheduled in a service center after the successful completion of the written test. Please do not schedule a driving skills test if you require a written test. Non- U.S. Citizens can schedule an appointment here.
New Driver Education Requirement for Teens Starts August 1, 2025
Beginning August 1, 2025, Florida law will require individuals under the age of 18 who are applying for a driver license to complete a new 6-hour Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) course approved by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV). This course must meet or exceed the Florida Department of Education’s Traffic Safety Classroom course description (1900300).

Transition Period:
In July 2025 only, FLHSMV will accept either the 4-hour TLSAE or 6-hour DETS course.
Exemptions:
The TLSAE will still be accepted if the applicant:
- Is 18 or older,
- Transfers an out-of-state license,
- Obtained a Florida learner’s license before August 1, 2025, or
- Completed TLSAE before August 1, 2025 (good for 1 year).
A list of approved providers offering the new DETS course will be made available on the FLHSMV website once the new application process is complete.
Tavares Driving Test
If you do not show up for your appointment, your service fees will be forfeited. Repayment is required to reschedule.
